Camp Akalaka is actively seeking the following:

 

1. Camp Akalaka Assistant Director- Malone, NY

The Assistant Director acts as a jack of all trades, assisting our Director in the daily running of summer camp, supervising staff, and acting as the mediator for camper conflicts. Duties also include helping our leadership team with the wider camp program and implement educational programming for Camp Akalaka in accordance with established program parameters. Program topics may include, gardening, STEM programs, astronomy/GIS, civic engagement, leadership activities, and nutrition and physical activity. Lifeguard certification preferred.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 21+ years old.
  • At least one (1) year volunteer or related work experience.
  • NYS DOH recognized First-Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as appropriate.

 

2. Camp Akalaka Counselor- Malone, NY

Duties include creating and maintaining a fun and safe environment for campers while acting as a mentor. Counselors are also responsible for facilitating daily programming for Camp Akalaka in accordance with established program parameters. Program topics will include, gardening, STEM programs, astronomy/GIS, civic engagement, leadership activities, team building initiatives, and nutrition and physical activity. Counselors will assume the responsibility for the general health and safety of the campers. Current  first-aid and CPR certification required.

 

Required Qualifications

  • NYS DOH recognized First-Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as appropriate.

 

3. Camp Akalaka Lifeguard- Malone, NY

Provide life-guarding skills and other duties as assigned by the aquatics director. Lifeguards with WSI will provide instruction and testing, while other guards help with supervision, teaching, guidance, and motivation to all campers during swimming activities. Lifeguard staff will also have the opportunity to act as camp counselors during the off time of swimming activities. Lifeguards will also assume the responsibility for the general health and safety of the campers. Current waterfront first-aid, CPR and RedCross Lifeguarding certification required.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Accredited Life Guard certification.
  • NYS DOH recognized First-Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as appropriate

 

 

All positions will serve as a temporary seasonal  employment for Camp Akalaka day camp ran by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Franklin County and the Malone YMCA.

All positions are seasonal temporary with a competitive salary depending on experience.
